Box Score MCCOMB – The No. 19 Jones College Lady Bobcats won its season opener here Tuesday afternoon at Fernwood Country Club. The Lady Bobcats whipped Southwest Mississippi, 9-0.
Jones returns to action with a 1 p.m. scrimmage Friday at Mississippi College. They will play Marion Military Institute (Alabama) at 2 p.m. Saturday in Meridian.
The first home match for Jones will be Feb. 7 with a scrimmage vs. Delta State University.
No. 19 Jones took a quick 3-0 lead in doubles.
Danielle Viljoen (Jackson) and
Judith Mills (Pontotoc) defeated Savannah Frith and Kim San 8-1 in No. 1 doubles.
Kamryn Rodriguez (Newton County) and
Dixie Lei Hodges (Laurel Christian School) blanked Amber Byrd and Allye Byrd 8-0 in No. 2 doubles.
Brooke Chism (Pontotoc) and
Stori Endt (Vancleave) shutout Rylie Garris and Gamilla Cevallos in No. 3 doubles, 8-0.
Viljoen whipped San in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Mills beat Frith in No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-1. Hodges blanked Garris in No. 3 doubles, 6-0, 6-0 and Chism downed Amber Byrd in No. 4 doubles, 6-0, 6-1. Rodriguez beat Allye Byrd in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-1 and Endt downed Cevallos in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
