ELLISVILLE – The No. 3 Jones College Lady Bobcats had a tough day in the opening round of the MACJC Tournament here Wednesday at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
Pearl River overcame an early 2-0 deficit and defeated Jones, 8-2.
The Lady Bobcats, 41-7, will face East Central in an elimination game at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
In other first round games, No. 10 Itawamba beat Copiah-Lincoln, 6-4; No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast downed Southwest, 9-1 in five innings; and Northeast downed No. 14 East Central, 10-8.
In Thursday's other loser's bracket game, Co-Lin meets Southwest at 10 a.m. In winner's bracket games, MGCCC meets Itawamba at 3 p.m. and Pearl River, 26-19, faces Northeast at 5:30 p.m.
The top three teams in the MACJC Tournament advance to the Region 23 Tournament next week.

Jones got off to a good start.
The Lady Bobcats took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when
Hallie Donald (Mooreville) and
Raylen Blackwell (St. Patrick) drew walks. Both runners advanced a base on a passed ball.
Mollie Singleterry's (Wayne County) ground out to second scored Donald and
LP Trammell's (Germantown) double to left scored Blackwell.
Mary Grace Turner led off the fourth inning for Pearl River with a home run to make it 2-1.
PRCC would take the lead in the fifth when Sarah Gehrmann led off with an infield hit and Brooke Fagan would follow with a two-run home run to left to make it 3-2.
It stayed that way until the seventh when the Wildcats put up five runs.
Jordan Lee led off with a pinch-hit single and was sacrificed to second by Hannah Rasberry. Fagan followed with a single and Elizabeth Taggard's ground out drove in Lee. Turner then doubled a run home and Dallas Blaker followed with a two-run home run to make it 7-2.
BreAnna Corkern then singled and Alyssa Pinero reached on an error which scored Corkern.
Donald went four-plus innings, allowing two runs, seven hits, no walks and picking up four strikeouts.
Lauren Stringer (Taylorsville) pitched the final three innings and got the loss. She gave up six runs (five earned), six hits, walked none and struck out three as she fell to 14-4.

Rebekah DiLavore (Ocala, Florida) adding singles.
Grace Barnett went the distance and got the win for PRCC. She allowed two runs, six hits, walked five and struck out one.
Fagan homered, doubled and singled with Blaker getting a home run and two singles. Turner homered and doubled with Corkern getting two singles. Taggard, Gehrmann and Lee added singles.
