No.3 Lady Bobcats sweep Southwest on "Sophomore Day"

ELLISVILLE – The 3rd-ranked Jones College Lady Bobcats celebrated "Sophomore Day" in a successful way here Tuesday at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
Pitcher Hallie Donald (Mooreville) belted a grand slam, LP Trammell (Germantown) homered and Jones whipped Southwest 16-6 in five innings in game one. In game two, Lauren Stringer (Taylorsville) tossed a one-hitter, Mollie Singleterry (Wayne County) homered twice and Kayla Collins (East Central) also homered as Jones won 9-0 in six innings.
The Lady Bobcats, 39-6 overall and 23-3 in the MACJC, end regular season play with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at East Mississippi on Friday.
The MACJC Tournament will be held May 8-11 at the site of the regular season champion, which will either be Jones or Itawamba. ICC is 21-3 in the league and hosts Meridian on Thursday and goes to Southwest on Saturday.
The Lady Bears are 28-13 and 15-11.

It was over early in game one.
The Lady Bobcats sent 11 batters to the plate and scored eight runs in the first inning. They sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the second inning.
Trammell, the Jones leadoff batter, had a two-run home run to cap the first inning. She now has 19 home runs on the season, which is second in NJCAA Division II.
Donald belted her grand slam to highlight the second inning.
In the circle, Donald went 3.1 innings, allowed an unearned run, three hits and struck out one. She is now 22-1, which ranks second nationally in wins. Kaeleigh Crutchfield (Clinton Christian) pitched the final 1.2 innings, giving up five runs (two earned), four hits, a walk and posting a strikeout.
Trammell homered and singled, Singleterry had two doubles and Collins doubled and singled and McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) had two singles. Donald homered, Raven Blackwell (St. Patrick) and Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) added singles.
Donald had four RBIs with Trammell, Sikes and Collins getting two each.
Josey Nations singled twice for Southwest. Carrington Jefcoat homered, Madison Gower tripled and Tia Bussey, Madison Newman and Scottie Metrejean had singles.
Starter Jordan McNabb went one-plus inning and got the loss. She gave up 13 runs (seven earned), eight hits and walked two. Kalyn Chemin pitched three innings and gave up three runs (two earned), three hits, walked two and struck out one.

Stringer was outstanding in the circle as she upped her record to 13-4.
She gave up only a double in the fourth inning to Nations. She struck out six and walked two.
Jones got on the scoreboard in the second inning when Trammell led off with a walk, Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) reached on a fielder's choice, Sikes walked and Denton followed with a two-run single off the top of the wall in left-center.
In the fourth, Raven Blackwell led off with a double, Raylen Blackwell (St. Patrick) walked and Singleterry followed with a three-run home run to make it 5-0.
The Lady Bobcats closed it out in the bottom of the sixth.
Singleterry led off the inning with a home run to center. Trammell and Sikes both singled and Collins hit a three-run blast to center to end the game.
Singleterry homered twice and Trammell singled twice. Collins homered with Raven Blackwell getting a double. Sikes, Denton and Raylen Blackwell had singles.
Singleterry had four RBIs, Collins drove in three runs and Denton had two RBIs.
Jade Latham went the distance and took the loss. She allowed nine earned runs, nine hits, walked five and struck out one.
