ELLISVILLE – In a battle of top 10 teams, top-ranked Jones College and No. 9 Mississippi Gulf Coast split a doubleheader here Tuesday evening at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
In game one, the Lady Bobcats broke a 7-7 tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeated the Bulldogs, 9-7. In game two, MGCCC bounced back with a 10-2, five-inning win over Jones.
The Lady Bobcats, 21-4 overall and 7-1 in the MACJC, head to Coahoma for a 2 p.m. Friday doubleheader.
MGCCC, 14-8 and 6-2, hosts East Mississippi Friday.

It was a back and forth contest before Jones broke away for good in the sixth.
Raylen Blackwell (St. Patrick) started the inning with a walk and was replaced by pinch-runner Jesse Smith (Seminary).
Mollie Singleterry (Wayne County) followed with an RBI triple to left and
Raven Blackwell's (St. Patrick) ground out would score pinch-runner
Carlee Nations (Enterprise-Lincoln).
Mya Hopson got a leadoff single in the top of the seventh for MGCCC, but
Hallie Donald (Mooreville) got Kayla Cade to fly out to right. Kaitlynn McGooey then lined out to shortstop
LP Trammell (Germantown) who threw to first baseman
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) to double off the runner and end the game.
Sikes got the Lady Bobcats off to a good start with a solo home run in the first to make it 1-0.
In the second,
Raylen Blackwell singled and
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) homered to center to gives Jones a 3-0 lead.
The Bulldogs answered with a four-run fourth.
Briana Shores led off the inning with a home run and Cade delivered a one-out single. Cade took second on a passed ball and scored on a Bailey Massey single. Shelby Archer followed with a two-run home run to put MGCCC ahead, 4-3.
But the Lady Bobcats responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Singleterry led off with a double and Trammell blasted a two-run home run to center.
Raven Blackwell then lined a home run over the leftfield wall to make it 6-4.
The Bulldogs came back to take a 7-6 lead in the fifth.
Betty Mingo led off with a double to left and Camryn Williams followed with an RBI double. Shores then hit her second home run of the game to give MGCCC the lead,
But it was short-lived as Trammell blasted her second home run of the game with one out in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 7-7.
Trammell had two home runs and three RBIs for Jones with Singleterry getting a triple and a double.
Rebekah DiLavore (Ocala, Florida) had two singles with
Raven Blackwell, McCleskey and Sikes getting home runs.
Kayla Collins (East Central),
Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) and
Raylen Blackwell added singles.
Raven Blackwell and McCleskey each had two RBIs.
Donald went the final 2.2 innings and got the win to improve to 12-0. She allowed no runs, two hits, walked one and struck out one. Starter
Lauren Stringer (Taylorsville) pitched 4.1 innings, allowed seven runs, 11 hits, walked one and struck out three.
Shores homered twice and drove in three runs for the Bulldogs. Archer homered and singled with Mingo getting a double and a single and Hopson and Kayla Cade each getting two singles. Camryn Williams doubled with McGooey and Massey adding singles.
Bryley Rodriguez pitched the final three innings and got the loss. She allowed three runs, four hits, walked six and struck out two. Starter Kristen Cade went three innings, allowed six runs, eight hits, walked two and struck out five.

After scoring a run in the top of the first, the Bulldogs added three runs each in the second, third and fourth innings to pull away for the win.
Archer led off the game with a home run to give MGCCC a 1-0 lead.
Camryn Williams and Shores singled to start the second and they each advanced on a sacrifice by Hannah Hembree. McGooey's fielder's choice drove in a run and Shores would score on a passed ball. A throwing error allowed McGooey to score and make it 4-0.
Marsha' Hunt tripled to start the third and scored on Mingo's single. Camryn Williams drew a walk and Shores reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Pinch-runner Talena Satcher would score on an error and McGooey's sacrifice fly scored Camryn Williams to make it 7-0.
The Bulldogs made it 10-0 in the fourth when Archer doubled and scored on a two-out single by Mingo. Camryn Williams singled and Shores delivered a two-run double.
Jones would score its runs in the fifth.
Raven Blackwell and Sikes had one-out singles and DiLavore delivered a two-out RBI single. Denton followed with an RBI double, but a groundout ended the game.

Raylen Blackwell adding singles.
Donald was the starter and got the loss, falling to 12-1. She pitched 2.0 innings, allowed six runs (five earned), five hits and struck out one.
Kaeleigh Crutchfield (Clinton Christian) pitched two innings, allowed four runs (three earned), five hits, walked two and struck out one. Sikes pitched the final inning, allowing no hits and recording two strikeouts.
Avery Sanders went the distance and got the win. She allowed five hits, four walks and struck out five.
Shores doubled and singled twice with Archer getting a home run and a double. Mingo and Camryn Williams each had two singles with Hunt getting a triple.
