Top-rated Jones College takes two from Northwest

ELLISVILLE – Top-rated Jones College posted two more wins here on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
Lauren Stringer (Taylorsville) tossed a three-hit shutout in the opener to lead the Lady Bobcats to an 8-0, five-inning victory. In game two, Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) belted a grand slam to pace Jones to an 8-4 victory over the Rangers.
The Lady Bobcats, 20-3 overall and 6-0 in the MACJC, host Mississippi Gulf Coast in a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday.
Northwest, 8-10-1 and 2-4, goes to Itawamba on Tuesday.

Stringer was sharp again as she improved to 6-1.
She allowed no runs, three hits, walked three and struck out six.
Rebekah DiLavore (Ocala, Florida) got the Lady Bobcats off to a good start by leading off the bottom of the second inning with a home run to left. 
Jones then took control with a six-run, second inning.
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) led off with a walk, Kayla Collins (East Central) singled and Faith Denton was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Raylen Blackwell (St. Patrick) drilled a two-run single to center and Mollie Singleterry (Wayne County) followed with another two-run single. 
LP Trammell (Germantown) then smashed her seventh home run of the season to give Jones a 7-0 lead.
The Lady Bobcats ended the game in the fifth when Raylen Blackwell singled and was replaced by pinch-runner Jesse Smith (Seminary). She stole second and reached third when McCleskey reached on a bunt single.
Singleterry's sacrifice fly to center scored Smith and ended the game.
Trammell homered and doubled and drove in two runs with Singleterry getting two singles and three RBIs. Raylen Blackwell had two singles and two RBIs. DiLavore homered with Collins and McCleskey adding singles. 
Shelby Wilson doubled for Northwest with Brittni Beard and Avery McIver adding singles.
Starting pitcher Lacey Coates went 2.2 innings and got the loss. She allowed seven runs, seven hits, walked two and struck out three. Sarah Johnson pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowed one runs, two hits and walked one.

The Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Beard singled and advanced to second on a ground out. Kristen Perrigo followed with a single and Beard scored on an error on the same play.
Jones tied the game in the bottom of the second when Collins led off with a double, stole third and scored on Hallie Donald's (Mooreville) groundout.
In the fourth, Sikes and Collins singled and Raylen Blackwell walked to load the bases.
With two outs, McCleskey hit an 0-1 out of the ballpark for a grand slam to put Jones ahead 5-1.
The Lady Bobcats added to the lead in the fifth when DiLavore singled, Donald walked and Raylen Blackwell followed with a two-out, two-run double to make it 7-1.
Northwest cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth.
With two outs, Madison Crosby reached on an error and Beard followed with an RBI double. Taylor Lott reached on a throwing error, allowing Beard to score. Perrigo followed with an RBI single.
Jones got its final run in the sixth when McCleskey led off with a walk and Singleterry singled. McCleskey stole third and came home on an error on the same play.
Donald, 11-0, went 5.1 innings and got the win. She allowed four runs (none earned), five hits, walked two and struck out two. Stringer pitched the final 1.2 innings, giving up no runs and one hit.
McCleskey homered and had four RBIs with Collins getting a double and a single. Raylen Blackwell doubled and had two RBIs. Singleterry had two singles with DiLavore and Sikes each getting a single.
Beard doubled and singled and Perrigo singled twice for Northwest. Politte added a double and Delta Newman singled.
Starting pitcher Katie Brownlee went five innings and took the loss. She allowed seven runs, seven hits, walked three and struck out four. Coats pitched the final inning, allowed a run, one hit and one walk.
