No. 1 Lady Bobcats go 4-1 in NFCA Leadoff Classic

COLUMBUS, Georgia – Top-ranked Jones College concluded play here Saturday night in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic.
After beating Seminole State (Florida) 7-0 earlier in the day, Jones dropped an 11-2 decision to Florida Southwestern, the top-ranked team in NJCAA Division I, in a Gold Bracket game. The Lady Bobcats went 4-1 in the tournament. Kayla Collins was named to the NFCA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament Team.
Jones, 14-3, will return home to play a 2 p.m. March 17 doubleheader vs. Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana).

Hallie Donald (Mooreville) and Lauren Stringer (Taylorsville) combined on the shutout for Jones.
Donald went 4.1 innings, allowed no runs, four hits, walked one and struck out four as she improved to 8-0. Stringer tossed the final 2.2 innings, allowed no runs, two hits, walked none and struck out two.
Hailey Weems (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) homered, singled and drove in three runs. Raven Blackwell doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs. LP Trammell (Germantown) doubled, singled and had two RBIs and Kayla Collins (East Central) doubled and singled. McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas), Raylen Blackwell (St. Patrick) and Mollie Singleterry (Wayne County) added singles.
Haley Hinz singled twice for Seminole. 
Samantha Guider went 3.2 innings, allowed five runs, nine hits, walked two, struck out four and took the loss. Gabi LoPresti pitched 3.1 innings, allowed two runs, three hits, walked two and struck out two.
The game was scoreless until the fifth when Jones struck for five runs. The Lady Bobcats added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Buccaneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. They led 5-2 after three and 9-2 after four.
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) led off the bottom of the third inning with a home run for Jones. Singleterry and Trammell followed with singles and with two outs, Collins walked to load the bases. Trammell stole home to make it 5-2, but a groundout ended the inning.
Collins also had a single for the Lady Bobcats.
Marley Peagler (Brandon) went three innings and took the loss. She allowed six runs (two earned), nine hits, walked none and struck out two as she fell to 3-2. Stringer pitched an inning, allowed four runs (one earned), three hits, walked none and struck out two. Kaeleigh Crutchfield (Conway, Arkansas) pitched an inning, allowed one run and two hits.
Kelsi Collins went all five innings and got the win. She allowed two runs, four hits, walked one and struck out nine.
Haley Ellefson doubled, singled and drove in four runs for the Buccaneers. Rebeca Laudino and Pallas Potter each had three singles and Paris Woods doubled and singled. 
The Buccaneers, 31-0, defeated LSU-Eunice 14-4 Sunday morning for the championship.
