DECATUR – The No. 17 Jones College Lady Bobcats defeated East Central Community College 7-2 in the season opener here Wednesday afternoon.
Jones swept the doubles points.
Mireia Jordan (Spain) and
Ariadna Jordan (Spain) defeated Josie Hurst and Ali Grace Walker in No. 1 doubles, 8-5.
Kaitlyn Craig (Petal) and
Carley Cochran (Wayne County) edged Gabriela Gomez and Kayla Baucum in No. 2 doubles, 9-8 (7-4).
Judith Mills (South Pontotoc) and
Danielle Viljoen (Jackson) beat Bethany Wellerman and Alex Tindall in No. 3 doubles, 8-6.
Mireia Jordan whipped Gomez in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1 and
Ariadna Jordan downed Walker in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Viljoen beat Wellerman in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2 and Mills defeated Baucum in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Hurst edged Craig in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 and Tindall beat
Sarrah Der-Ballout (MSMS) in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
The Lady Bobcats visit Holmes for a 2 p.m. match on Feb. 12.
East Central, 1-1, hosts Blue Mountain College on Friday.
