ELLISVILLE – The 17
th-ranked Jones College Lady Bobcats rolled to an 8-1 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast here in the home opener Wednesday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex/Bobcat Tennis Courts.
Jones took a 3-0 lead in doubles.
Mireia Jordan (Spain) and
Ariadna Jordan (Spain) beat Margarita Lopareva and Megan Bankston in No. 1 doubles, 8-2.
Kaitlyn Craig (Petal) and
Dixie Lei Hodges (Laurel Christian School) defeated Destiny Davis and Chloe Fell in No. 2 doubles, 8-2.
Danielle Viljoen (Jackson) and
Judith Mills (South Pontotoc) won No. 3 doubles by forfeit.
Ariadna Jordan whipped Bankston in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Craig downed Davis in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Viljoen blanked Fell in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0, Mills shut out Ivy Savell in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Hodges won No. 6 singles by forfeit.
Mireia Jordan lost to Lopareva in No. 1 singles, 2-6, 3-6.
The Lady Bobcats are now 4-1 and the Lady Bulldogs fall to 1-5.
Jones will travel to Meridian for a 2 p.m. match Friday and will host Delta State in a 3 p.m. scrimmage on Sunday.
MGCCC visits East Central Thursday.
