ELLISVILLE – The Jones College Bobcats claimed its fifth straight victory with a 73-52 win over Meridian Community College here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Bobcats are 13-4 overall and are in second place in MACJC South Division play at 7-1.
The Bobcats outscored the Eagles 43-24 in the second half to grab the win.
Meridian led 14-10 with 9:23 left in the first half when Alvarez Powell scored.
Jones battled back and took the lead for good at 25-22 with 2:18 left in the half when
Ladarius Anderson (Jackson Provine) hit a 3-pointer.
Galen Alexander's (Breaux Bridge, Louisiana) basket at 1:50 gave Jones its biggest lead of the first half at 27-22.
The Bobcats lead 30-28 at halftime.
MCC hit a free throw to make it 30-29 to start the second half.
Jones would then use a 12-2 run, capped by an Alexander 3-pointer, to take a 42-31 lead with 15:00 left. MCC's Brandon Mills scored at 13:52 to make it 42-35, but that was as close as the Eagles would get.
Winceton Edwards' (Oak Grove) drive gave the Bobcats a 56-42 lead with 7:25 remaining.
Shardarrion Allen's (Raymond) bucket with 31.9 seconds to play ended the scoring and gave Jones its largest lead of the game.
Alexander led the Bobcats with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Edwards added 16 and Anderson finished with 10.
Casey Smith Jr. (Columbus) had five assists and
Michael Williams Jr. (Rayville, Louisiana) had three steals.
Kylan Hamilton topped the Eagles with 14 points and Mills added 12.
The Bobcats were 28-of-57 (8-of-16 from 3-point range) for 49 percent. Jones was 9-of-13 from the free throw line.
Meridian drops to 7-9 overall, 2-6 in division play.
Jones travels to Utica to face Hinds Community College for a 7:30 p.m. game on Monday.
The Eagles host Southwest on Monday.
