Huge run keys Bobcats to 88-83 win at Co-Lin

WESSON – The Jones College Bobcats used a 27-3 run in the first half to take control and defeat Copiah-Lincoln Community College, 88-83, here Monday night at Mullen Gymnasium/Gwyn Young Court.
Jones is now 12-4 overall and is in second place in the MACJC South Division at 6-1.
Co-Lin jumped to a 13-5 lead four minutes into the game. A Kenneth Rogers (Starkville) 3-pointer made it 16-12. Miles Daniels' two free throws put the Wolves up 18-12 with 12:48 to play in the first half.
The Bobcats then scored 17 straight points, capped by a Galen Alexander (Breaux Bridge, Louisiana) slam dunk, to take a 29-18 lead with 8:55 to play in the first half. Another Alexander basket gave Jones its largest lead of the opening half at 39-21 with 5:53 left.
The Wolves would then score 10 straight points and make it 39-31 with 2:13 left on a layup by Xavier Heidelberg. Alexander's basket with a second to play gave the Bobcats a 47-36 halftime lead.
Zachariah Malone (Shady Grove, Louisiana) converted a 3-point play with 13:34 left in the game to give Jones a 60-44 lead. Two Michael Williams Jr. (Rayville, Louisiana) free throws gave the Bobcats a 71-53 lead with 8:27 remaining and a David McCoy (Meridian) drive put the Bobcats up 82-64 with 3:41 to play.
But Co-Lin would battle back and cut the lead to 84-77 with 44 seconds to play on a 3-pointer by Daniels. The Wolves got within 87-83 with 9.1 seconds remaining on another Daniels' 3-pointer. 
Co-Lin would then come up with a steal, but could not convert and the Bobcats held on for its fourth straight victory.
Alexander had 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Bobcats. Rogers had 21 points (four 3-pointers), Malone had 13 points and Winceton Edwards (Oak Grove) had 12. Williams had six assists.
Daniels had 22 points for Co-Lin, Heidelberg added 19, with Damarius Brooks and Cameron Woodall scoring 11 points each.
Jones was 33-of-65 from the field (9-of-24 from 3-point range) for 51 percent. The Bobcats were 13-of-16 from the free throw line.
Co-Lin was 25-of-55 from the field (9-of-23 from 3-point range) for 46 percent. The Wolves were 24-of-32 from the foul line.
Each team was credited with 33 rebounds.
Jones opens up the second half of division play with a 7:30 p.m. home game Thursday vs. Meridian Community College. The game will air on www.jcjc.tv.
Co-Lin entertains Pearl River on Thursday.
