ELLISVILLE – No. 7 Itawamba got a shutout pitching performance from Olivia Burns and defeated No. 1 Jones County 5-0 in game two of a doubleheader.
ICC won game one, 6-3.
Burns struck out four and walked two as she posted the victory.
Itawamba took a 1-0 lead in the second when Shelby Newsom led off with a walk, Macey Cox singled and Bailie Springfield sacrificed. Burns then hit a groundout to second to plate the run.
The Lady Indians made it 2-0 in the third when Cori Childs led off with a walk, stole second and scored on Samantha Conley's single.
It stayed that way until the fifth when ICC scored three runs.
Meg Sullivan led off with a single and Conley reached on a fielder's choice when the ball was thrown away. Newsom then sacrificed the runners and Cox followed with a two-run double. Springfield's double made it 5-0.
Madison Burge (Harrison Central) pitched all seven innings and got the loss. She allowed five runs, seven hits, walked three and struck out two. Burge is now 10-1 on the year.
Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana),
Angel Guyton (Smithville) and
Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy) each singled for JCJC.
JCJC is now 33-3 overall, 20-2 in the MACJC. ICC improves to 28-6 overall, 19-1 in the conference.
The Lady Bobcats visit Meridian for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday, while Itawamba hosts East Mississippi on Tuesday.
