ELLISVILLE – Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) had a huge game to lead No. 5 Jones County to a win over East Mississippi in game one of a doubleheader here Saturday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
The freshman rightfielder belted a grand slam, a solo shot, a single and drove in five runs to spark JCJC to a 7-2 win over the Lions.
EMCC took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Kelsey English walked and Bryley Rodriguez hit a two-run home run to center.
In the bottom of the second, Hallie Donald (Mooreville) drew a walk, McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) had an infield single and Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) singled to left to load the bases.
McCleskey then drilled a home run over the centerfield wall to give Jones a 4-2 lead. Later in the inning, Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) singled, stole second and scored on a single by Emily Robinson (Lafayette).
In the fourth inning, McCleskey led off with a single and stole second. Sarah Brock (North Pike) sacrificed her to third and Loftin's sacrifice fly to center drove her home to make it 6-2.
McCleskey ended the scoring with a two-out home run to left in the sixth.
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) went the distance and got the win. She allowed two runs, three hits, walked two and struck out eight. Perque is now 16-2 on the year.
