SUMMIT –
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout to lead No. 5 Jones County to a 7-0 victory over Southwest Mississippi here Wednesday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader.
Perque recorded nine strikeouts and walked none as she improved to 15-2.
The game was scoreless until the fifth.
Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) singled with one out and
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) reached on a fielder's choice. With two outs, McCleskey stole second.
Angel Guyton (Smithville) reached on an error, allowing McCleskey to score.
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) followed with a single to put runners at first and third.
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) reached on an error, which allowed two runs to score and give Jones a 3-0 lead.
In the sixth,
Hallie Donald (Mooreville) and
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) singled and Denton followed with a two-run single. McCleskey singled and
Sarah Brock (North Pike) delivered an RBI double. Loftin's bunt single would drive in the game's final run.
Denton and Loftin each had two singles for the Lady Bobcats. Brock added a double with Murray, Donald, Sikes and McCleskey getting singles.
Terrah Nelson singled twice for Southwest and Madison Parker singled.
Kassie Shipley started and got the loss. She pitched 5.1 innings, allowed six runs (three earned), six hits, walked one and struck out two. Jordan McNabb pitched 1.2 innings, allowed one run and three hits.
JCJC is now 38-3 overall and 23-2 in the MACJC.
Southwest is 16-23 and 9-18.
