SUMMIT – Fifth-rated Jones County overcame a 4-3 deficit with two runs in the top of the sixth inning and edged Southwest Mississippi 5-4 in game two of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon.
JCJC won game one, 7-0.
The Lady Bobcats, 39-3 overall and 24-2 in the MACJC, conclude regular season play with a 2 p.m. Saturday doubleheader at home vs. East Mississippi. JCJC will host an MACJC best-of-3 playoff series on April 27-28.
Southwest, 16-24 overall and 9-19 in the conference, ends the season at Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana) on Friday.
JCJC took a 1-0 lead in the first in game two when
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) singled, stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by
Emily Robinson (Lafayette).
Southwest responded with three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead.
The Lady Bobcats tied it in the top of the third.
Loftin reached on an error and scored on a triple by
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy). Robinson's sacrifice fly to center scored Murray.
The Lady Bears scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.
In the top of the sixth,
Angel Guyton (Smithville) led off with a single and
Simone McKinney (Harrison Central) walked. After Loftin sacrificed, Murray's sacrifice fly to center scored
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia), who was running for Guyton. Robinson then reached on an error, allowing McKinney to score the go-ahead run.
Hallie Donald (Mooreville), in relief of starter
Madison Burge (Harrison Central), allowed only a single in the sixth and retired the side in order in the seventh to post her second save. Burge, 12-1, went five innings and got the win. She gave up four runs (one earned), six hits and struck out one.
Murray tripled,
Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) doubled and Loftin,
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas), McCleskey, Guyton and McKinney added singles.
Ashley Eisenshon, Kayla McNabb, Miranda Magee, Madison Bates, Carrington Jefcoat, Melanie Crum and Jami Spears each singled for Southwest.
Jordan McNabb went 4.1 innings and took the loss. She allowed two runs (one earned), three hits, walked one and struck out two. Mikaela Smith pitched 2.2 innings, allowed three runs (two earned), four hits and walked three.
