ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats celebrated "Sophomore Day" in a successful way here Friday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex Tennis Courts.
The Lady Bobcats blanked Holmes 9-0 to end the regular season at 15-3.
They will now participate in the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament in Meridian April 19-21.
Lady Bobcat sophomores who were honored were
Brooke Cran (Wayne County),
Kaylee McLaurin (Laurel Christian School),
Beth Owen (Stone) and
August Parker (Northeast Jones).
Holmes only brought three players to the courts, so JCJC won five matches by default.
Owen and McLaurin blanked Lucy Oakes and Hannah Thomas in No. 1 doubles, 8-0. JCJC won No.'s 2 and 3 doubles by default.
Owen beat Alexia Kahmarr in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0. McLaurin shut out Thomas in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Cran won No. 3 singles over Oakes, 8-1. Jones won No.'s 4-6 singles by default.
Holmes, 0-8, is scheduled to end regular season play at Itawamba on Saturday.
