Seven-run first inning keys No. 6 JCJC past Baton Rouge CC

ELLISVILLE – The 6th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats scored seven runs on just one hit in the first inning and went on to an 11-1, five-inning victory over Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana) in game one of a doubleheader here Friday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) was hit by a pitch to start the game. Taylor Murray (Parkline Academy) and Emily Robinson (Lafayette) then walked to load the bases. Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) then reached on an error, which allowed two runs to score, and Hallie Donald (Mooreville) walked to load the bases again. McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) then walked to force in a run. Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) then reached on another error, which allowed two runs to score and make it 5-0.
After a strikeout, Sarah Brock (North Pike) followed with the inning's only hit – an RBI single to left. Loftin then drew a walk and Robinson's ground out scored another run to make it 7-0.
Donald led off the second with a double and Sikes reached on a single. Denton followed with a double and Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) walked. Loftin reached on an infield hit, which drove in a run. Murray then delivered a two-run single to make it 10-0 and Robinson followed with an RBI single.
BRCC's only run came in the fifth inning when Emily Hart and Heather Gardner singled and Hallie Autin followed with an RBI single.
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) went the distance and got the win. Perque, 14-2, allowed one run five hits, walked one and struck out five.
Denton doubled and singled for Jones. Brock had two singles with Donald getting a double. Murray, Robinson and Sikes had singles.
Autin, Sara Tate, Tarynn McNabb, Hart and Gardner singled for BRCC.
Renee Firmin pitched to the first five JCJC batters, did not record an out and took the loss. She gave up five runs (four earned), no hits, walked three and hit one. Sydnee McCall came on after that, pitched three innings, allowed six runs (four earned), eight hits, walked four and struck out three. Hart pitched an inning, allowed no runs, one hit and walked two.
JCJC is now 36-3, while Baton Rouge falls to 7-20.
