ELLISVILLE –
Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) homered and singled twice to spark No. 6 Jones County to an 8-2 win over Baton Rouge Community Community College in game two of a doubleheader here Friday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
JCJC won the opener, 11-1 in five innings.
JCJC, 37-3, resumes MACJC South Division play with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Southwest on Wednesday.
BRCC, 7-21, hosts Bossier Parrish Community College (Louisiana) on Monday.
In the bottom of the first inning of game two,
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) singled and Venable smashed a two-run home run to center to give Jones a 2-0 lead.
BRCC tied it in the fourth when Shelby McDonald reached on an error and scored on a triple to right by Cori Breaux. A ground out by Shelby Breaux scored Cori Breaux to make it 2-2.
JCJC regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Venable led off with a single,
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) singled and
Angel Guyton (Smithville) walked to load the bases.
Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy) reached on an error, which allowed Venable to score.
Simone McKinney's (Harrison Central) infield single drove in Sikes to make it 4-2.
The Lady Bobcats increased the lead to 7-2 in the fifth.
Venable led off with a single, Sikes doubled to left and Guyton followed with a two-run double to right-center. Gilbert followed with an RBI single.
JCJC's final run came in the sixth when
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) singled, stole second, went to third on McKinney's ground out and scored on Loftin's ground out.
Sikes started, went 3.2 innings, allowed two runs (none earned), two hits, walked one and struck out four.
Hallie Donald (Mooreville) went the final 3.1 innings and got the win. Donald, 11-0, allowed no runs and one hit. She retired 10 of the 11 batters she faced.
In addition to Venable's big day, Sikes doubled and singled, while Guyton doubled. Loftin, Gilbert, McCleskey and McKinney added singles.
Shelby Breaux went the distance and got the loss. She pitched six innings, allowed eight runs (six earned), 10 hits, walked one and struck out two.
Cori Breaux tripled for BRCC, while Autin and Sara Tate singled.
