FULTON – The No. 22 Jones County Junior College women's tennis posted an impressive 9-0 victory over Itawamba here Thursday afternoon at the Johnson-Partlow Tennis Courts.
JCJC improved to 6-1 with the win.
In No. 1 doubles,
Mireia Jordan (Spain) and
Ariadna Jordan (Spain) beat Bailey Gillentine and Kaitlyn Meadows, 8-4. In No. 2 doubles. In No. 2 doubles,
Beth Owen (Stone) and
Kaylee McLaurin (Laurel Christian School) whipped Caroline Ferguson and Madison Mayhall, 8-1. In No. 3 doubles,
August Parker (Northeast Jones) and
Brooke Cran (Wayne County) defeated Claire Ferguson and Lizbeth Jiminez, 8-2.
In No. 1 singles,
Mireia Jordan whipped Meadows, 6-0, 6-1. In No. 2 singles,
Ariadna Jordan blanked Gillentine, 6-0, 6-0. In No. 3 singles, Owen shutout Mayhall, 6-0, 6-0. In No. 4 singles, McLaurin defeated Caroline Ferguson, 6-3, 6-4. In No. 5 singles, Parker downed Claire Ferguson, 6-1, 6-4. In No. 6 singles, Cran rallied by Georgia Claire Campbell, 7-6, 6-7, 10-7.
In an extra match, Jiminez beat
Kaitlyn Craig, 8-5.
Itawamba is now 0-5.
The Bobcats will play their final match before spring break against Blue Mountain College at 10 a.m. on Friday in New Albany. The next match after that will be on March 21 vs. Cowley College (Kansas) in Meridian.
Itawamba goes to East Central on Friday.
