BILOXI –
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) had a no-hitter through six innings before finishing with a one-hitter and 12 strikeouts as top-ranked Jones County beat No. 7 Mississippi Gulf Coast 4-0 in game one of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon at Biloxi High School.
The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth when
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) led off with a single, took second on a passed ball and scored on a single by
Emily Robinson (Lafayette).
The Lady Bobcats got some insurance in the top of the seventh with three runs.
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) reached on an error to start the inning and
Sarah Brock (North Pike) followed with a bunt single. Both runners advanced on a double steal and Murray followed with a two-run triple to left. Robinson's bunt brought Murray home.
Katie Beth Williams broke up Perque's no-hitter with a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh. But Perque got a strikeout, flyout and strikeout to end the game. Perque, 6-1, allowed only one other baserunner and that was when Hannah Hembree reached on a one-out error in the fifth.
Murray tripled and singled, while
Kelsha Loftin (tripled). Brock, Robinson and
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) added singles. Murray and Robinson each had two RBIs.
Avery Sanders went the distance and took the loss, giving up four runs (two earned), six hits and one walk. She had five strikeouts.
JCJC is now 18-1 overall and 5-0 in the MACJC. MGCCC is 8-5 and 3-2.
