BILOXI – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College had 13 hits as they defeated No. 7 Mississippi Gulf Coast 10-2 in game two of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon at Biloxi High School.
The Lady Bobcats won the opener, 4-0.
JCJC is now 19-1 overall, 6-0 in the MACJC and has won 11 straight games.
The Lady Bobcats host Coahoma in a 3 p.m. doubleheader Friday at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
MGCCC, 8-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference, visits East Mississippi on Friday.
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) quickly set the tone in game two, slugging a one-out home run in the top of the first inning.
Emily Robinson (Lafayette) followed with a double and scored when
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) reached on an error to make it 2-0.
Jones went up 4-0 in the second when
Simone McKinney (Harrison Central) singled,
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) singled and Murray followed with an RBI double. Loftin would come home on an error.
The Lady Bobcats added a run in the third when
Hallie Donald (Mooreville) led off with a single,
Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy) sacrificed, McKinney singled and an error allowed Donald to score.
Jones took a 6-0 lead in the fourth when Robinson tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Sikes.
MGCCC's two runs came in the bottom of the fourth when Kristen Sexton walked and Jada White followed with a two-run home run.
JCJC went ahead 8-2 in the sixth. Sikes and
Callie Venable (Silliman, Louisiana) each singled with two outs and Donald doubled them home.
In the seventh,
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) led off with a walk, McKinney singled and Loftin reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Murray walked to drive in McCleskey and Robinson's sacrifice fly to right scored McKinney.
McKinney had three singles for JCJC, while Murray homered and doubled, Robinson tripled and singled, Donald doubled and singled and Loftin singled twice. Sikes and Venable added singles.
Madison Burge (Harrison Central) pitched all seven innings and got the win, improving her record to 6-0. She allowed two runs, two hits, walked three and struck out eight.
White homered and Katie Beth Williams doubled for MGCCC's only hits.
Sydney Davis, the first of MGCCC six pitchers, started and took the loss. She allowed two runs (one earned), two hits, walked one and struck out one in .1 innings.
