No. 1 Lady Bobcats post 21st straight victory

ELLISVILLE – The top-rated Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats ran its winning streak to 21 games here Monday at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) homered twice to spark JCJC to a 7-2 win over Hinds Community College in game two of a doubleheader.
The Lady Bobcats won the opener, 12-6.
JCJC is now 29-1 overall and 16-0 in the MACJC.
The Lady Bobcats will head to Mississippi Delta for a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday. The games were originally scheduled for Thursday, but were moved up because of the possibility of rain later in the week.
Madison Burge (Harrison Central) gave JCJC a solid effort in the circle.
She went the distance, gave up two runs, five hits, walked none and struck out one as she improved to 9-0.
Murray got the Lady Bobcats going with a one-out home run over the centerfield wall in the bottom of the first.
Emily Robinson (Lafayette) then walked and Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) reached on a fielder's choice. Hallie Donald (Mooreville) drew a walk and McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) followed with a walk to force Robinson home. Bailey Gilbert's (Sylva-Bay Academy) sacrifice fly to center gave Jones a 3-0 lead.
The Lady Bobcats added a run in the second. Simone McKinney (Harrison Central) walked and Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) reached on an error. With two outs, Venable drilled an RBI single to center to make it 4-0.
Hinds scored in the fourth when Nikki Skerlong homered to left-center to make it 4-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, Loftin and Murray both reached on bunt singles. Robinson's sacrifice fly to center scored Loftin and Venable's sacrifice fly to left scored Murray to give JCJC a 6-1 lead.
The Eagles made it 6-2 in the sixth when Brooke Patterson and Skerlong singled and Madeleine Hart's single scored Patterson. Hart was thrown out trying to stretch the single into a double.
Murray ended the scoring with a two-out, solo home run to left in the bottom of the sixth.
Murray homered twice, singled and had two RBIs. Venable singled and had two RBIs and Loftin singled.
Skerlong homered and singled for the Lady Eagles. Patterson, Purdy and Hart added singles.
Cecilia Akin went the distance and got the loss. She allowed seven runs (six earned), five hits, walked five and struck out two.
