ELLISVILLE – The 15
th-ranked Jones County Junior College women's tennis won an exciting, 5-4 decision over No. 23 Meridian Community College here Monday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex Tennis Courts.
Jones won two of the three doubles points.
Mireia Jordan (Spain) and
Ariadna Jordan (Spain) beat Julia McCarty and Amanda Lowery in No. 1 doubles, 8-5.
Beth Owen (Stone) and
Kaylee McLaurin (Laurel Christian School) beat Kenedy Rodriguez and Rachel Sollie in No. 2 doubles, 8-6. Katherin Mitchell and Kelsea Baksh defeated
August Parker and
Brooke Cran in No. 3 doubles, 8-5.
JCJC dominated the No.'s 1-3 singles matches.
Mireia Jordan won No. 1 singles over McCarty, 6-0, 6-0.
Ariadna Jordan took No. 2 singles over Rodriguez, 6-0, 6-0. Owen claimed No. 3 singles over Sollie, 6-0, 6-1.
Lowery beat McLaurin in No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-1. Mitchell downed Parker in No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-1. Baksh beat Cran in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-0.
Kaitlyn Craig (Petal) won an extra match over Taylor Slay, 8-0.
JCJC improved to 9-2 with the win, while the Lady Eagles are 7-8.
Jones hosts Wallace St.-Hanceville (Alabama) in a 1 p.m. Tuesday match and will travel to Copiah-Lincoln on Thursday.
Meridian goes to East Central on Tuesday.
