Top-rated Lady Bobcats win 19th straight game

BOONEVILLE – Top-rated Jones County Junior College won its 19th straight game here Friday in game two of a doubleheader.

The Lady Bobcats defeated Northeast Mississippi 14-1 in six innings. JCJC took the opener 9-0 in five innings.

The Lady Tigers' run with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning snapped a 44-inning scoreless streak by JCJC pitchers.

The Lady Bobcats scored a run in the first when Kelsha Loftin (Mendenall) reached on an error on a bunt and scored when Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) also reached on an error.

JCJC took a 3-0 lead in the second. Hallie Donald (Mooreville) and Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy) drew walks. Simone McKinney's (Harrison Central) single scored pinch-runner Sarah Brock (North Pike) and Bailey Gilbert Sylva-Bay Academy) would score on an error.

In the third, Murray walked and scored on Callie Venable's (Clinton, Louisiana) double to right.

After Northeast broke JCJC's scoreless inning streak with a run in the fourth, JCJC put up a 10-spot in the sixth inning.

Venable and Donald both singled and McKennah Sikes (Van Buren) followed with an RBI single.  Gilbert then hit a run-scoring single and Angel Guyton (Smithville) drilled a two-run single to make it 8-1.

A sacrifice by McKinney scored Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia), who had re-entered for Guyton. Meg Martin (Leake Academy) and Emily Robinson (Lafayette) walked to load the bases and Venable drilled a two-run single.

Donald then had an RBI single and Nancy Williams (Southeast Lauderdale) hit a two-run single to end the scoring.

Donald went all six innings and got the win. She allowed one run, two hits, walked none and struck out 4-0 to move her record to 8-0.

Venable had a double, two singles and three RBIs, while Donald had two singles. Sikes, Williams, Gilbert, Guyton and McKinney added singles.

Mackenzie Denton took the loss for Northeast.
