BOONEVILLE – Top-rated Jones County Junior College won its seventh straight shutout here Friday afternoon.
The Lady Bobcats defeated Northeast Mississippi 9-0 in game one of a doubleheader.
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) limited the Lady Tigers to one hit as she upped her record to 10-1. She allowed only a third inning double to Anne Webb. Perque had six strikeouts and walked one.
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) walked and Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) doubled. Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) singled to score Sikes and Sarah Brock's (North Pike) single scored Denton.
The Lady Bobcats made it 3-0 in the third when Emily Robinson (Lafayette) and Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) singled, Denton was hit by a pitch and McCleskey singled a run home.
In the fourth, Robinson doubled and Venable followed with a two-run home run to make it 5-0.
In the fifth, Sikes walked, Denton was hit by a pitch and McCleskey reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Angela Guyton's (Smithville) sacrifice fly to left scored pinch-runner Simone McKinney (Harrison Central). After Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) reached on a double, Taylor Murray's (Parklane Academy) double drove in two runs. Robinson's RBI double ended the scoring.
Robinson doubled twice and singled, while McCleskey had three singles. Venable homered and singled with Denton and Murray adding doubles. Loftin and Brock had singles..
Taylor Harris went the distance and took the loss for Northeast.
JCJC has now won 18 straight games. The Lady Bobcats are 26-1 overall and 13-0 in the MACJC.
Northeast falls to 15-13 and 6-5.
