WESSON – No. 1 Jones County Junior College posted an 8-0, five-inning victory over Copiah-Lincoln in game one of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon.
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) went all five innings to get the win. She gave up two hits, waked one and struck out six as she improved to 9-1.
JCJC took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) led off with a bunt single and
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) drew a walk.
Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) reached on a fielder's choice and
Hallie Donald (Mooreville) followed with a two-run double.
Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) then hit a two-run double.
In the second inning, Loftin walked and Murray reached on an error. They both advanced on a double steal and
Emily Robinson's (Lafayette) groundout drove in Loftin to make it 5-0.
JCJC went up 6-0 in the third inning.
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) led off with a single and Denton reached on an error.
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) was hit by a pitch and
Sarah Brock (North Pike) hit into a fielder's choice. Denton then scored on the front end of a double steal.
JCJC went up 7-0 in the fourth. Loftin led off with a single and Murray and Venable walked to load the bases. With two outs, Sikes walked to force in a run.
The Lady Bobcats ended the scoring in the fifth when McCleskey walked, Loftin singled and Murray drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Loftin had three singles and scored three runs. Denton and Donald each had doubles and two RBIs and Sikes singled.
