ELLISVILLE – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College returned to the diamond for the first time in nine days on Monday.
JCJC began a doubleheader with a 5-0 victory over Holmes here at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) went distance and upped her record to 7-1. She scattered seven hits, walked one and struck out one.
Jones took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when
Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) singled,
Hallie Donald (Mooreville) doubled and
Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) followed with a two-run double.
In the third,
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) and
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) both walked. They both advanced on a double steal and Robinson's ground out scored Loftin to make it 3-0.
JCJC scored twice in the fifth.
Loftin was hit by a pitch, Murray walked and Robinson walked to load the bases.
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) walked to drive in Lofton. Venable then flied out to center to score Murray.
Denton and Donald doubled for JCJC, while Venable and
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) added singles.
JCJC is 22-1 overall and 9-0 in the MACJC after the win.
Holmes is 10-7 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
