ELLISVILLE –
Sarah Brock (North Pike) hit an inside-the-park grand slam to help No. 1 Jones County beat Coahoma 8-0 in five innings in game one here Friday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Loftin walked, stole second, advanced to third on an error and scored on a groundout by
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy).
Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) reached on a two-base error, went to third on a groundout by
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) and scored on a passed ball.
In the second inning,
Meg Martin (Leake Academy) reached on a dropped third strike,
Angel Guyton (Smithville walked) and
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) reached on a bunt single to load the bases.
Brock then lined the ball to leftfield and was able to circle bases to give the Lady Bobcats a 6-0 lead.
Brock started a two-run rally in the fourth with a two-out, infield hit. She went to second on an error and Natlyn Hasty (Germantown) drew a walk. Hasty stole second and Murray drove both runners in with a single.
Brock homered and singled, McCleskey singled and Murray singled for Jones.
Hallie Donald (Mooreville) got the win, upping her record to 7-0. She went five innings, allowed two hits, walked none and struck out six.
Mekayla Hubbard and Faith Herrington singled for Coahoma.
Hubbard took the loss. She pitched four innings, allowed eight runs (five earned), four hits, walked four and struck out one.
JCJC is now 20-1 overall, 7-0 in the MACJC.
Coahoma is 0-9 and 0-7.
