ELLISVILLE – No. 2 Jones County Junior College whipped No. 1 LSU-Eunice 13-3 in five innings in game one of a doubleheader here Thursday evening at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
Emily Robinson (Lafayette) set the tone quickly with a solo home run to left in the bottom of the first inning.
The Lady Bobcats took a 5-0 lead in the second inning when they scored four runs on one hit and took advantage of three Lady Bengal errors. A two-run double by
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) was the only hit of the inning.
In the third inning after a
Hallie Donald (Mooreville),
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) followed with a two-run home run to make it 7-0.
LSU-Eunice scored three runs in the top of the fourth, but JCJC responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Sikes had a two-run double,
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) had an RBI double and Donald had an RBI in the inning.
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) was the winning pitcher. She started and went 3 1/3 innings, allowing no earned runs, two hits, four walks and striking out four. Donald went the final 1 1/3 innings, allowed no runs, no hits and struck out one.
Sikes homered, doubled and had four RBIs, while Robinson homered and singled. McCleskey tripled and singled, while
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) had two singles.
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) doubled and Donald,
Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) and
Angel Guyton (Smithville) added singles.
JCJC is now 3-0, while LSU-Eunice falls to 5-6.
