ELLISVILLE – No. 2 Jones County Junior College completed its 'run-rule' sweep of No. 1 LSU-Eunice here Thursday evening at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
The Lady Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, fell behind 6-5 in the third and then roared back to beat the Lady Bengals 14-6 in six innings.
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) belted a solo home run and
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) had a two-run blast in the bottom of the first as JCJC took a 3-0 lead.
Emily Robinson's (Lafayette) two-run double scored
Simone McKinney (Harrison Central) and
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) and gave JCJC a 5-0 lead after two.
LSU-Eunice scored six runs in the top of the third to take a 6-5 lead.
But JCJC answered with five runs in the bottom of the third. Murray had a bases-loaded double, Robinson had an RBI double and
Hallie Donald (Mooreville) had an RBI single as Jones took a 10-6 lead.
RBI singles by Lofton and Murray in the fourth help JCJC go up 13-6. The Lady Bobcats ended it in the sixth on an error.
Donald pitched the final 3 2/3 innings and got the win. She allowed a run and two hits. Starter
Madison Burge (Harrison Central) went the first 2 1/3 innings, allowed five runs and six hits.
Murray homered, doubled, singled and had five RBIs. Robinson doubled twice with Loftin and Donald each getting a double and a singled. Sikes homered with Grace McCleskey (Caledonia) and McKinney getting doubles.
JCJC, 4-0, will now host William Carey University in a 3 p.m. scrimmage on Tuesday. The Lady Bobcats will then participate in the Sun Chief Classic Feb. 16-17 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
LSU-Eunice, 5-7, will play three games in the Wildcat Invitational Tournament at Pearl River on Friday.
