POPLARVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats held Pearl River Community to only 14 points in the second half and rallied to stun the homestanding Wildcats, 53-47, here Thursday night at the White Coliseum.
Pearl River held the upper hand throughout the first half.
PRCC was up 17-8 with 8:29 left. But the Bobcats seemed to gain momentum when
Winceton Edwards (Oak Grove) hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cut the lead to 33-23 at halftime.
JCJC was down 44-39 with 6:48 left and outscored PRCC 14-3 the rest of the way to win it.
Kenneth Knight (Jim Hill) led the Bobcats with 14 points – all in the first half.
Malik Henry (Terry) had 13 points and 7 rebounds and
David McCoy (Meridian) had 8 points and 5 rebounds. Edwards finished with 7 points,
Michael Williams (Rayville, Louisiana) had 5 points and
Quentin Pough (Wayne County) and
David Gaines, Jr. (Wayne County) each had 3.
The Bobcats are now 11-8 overall and 6-4 in the MACJC South Division. JCJC is tied with Mississippi Gulf Coast for third in the division.
The Wildcats fall to 15-3 overall and 7-3 in the division. PRCC is still tied for first place with Copiah-Lincoln after the Wolves lost to MGCCC.
The Bobcats host Southwest at 7:30 p.m. Monday at A.B. Howard Gymnasium. The game airs on www.jcjc.tv
