BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – Second-ranked Jones County Junior College opened the season on a successful note here Monday afternoon at Oak Villa Park with a 6-1 victory over Baton Rouge Community College in game one of a doubleheader.
Freshman
Hallie Donald (Mooreville) shined in her first career start in the circle.
She had seven strikeouts, allowed four hits and walked one as she went the distance.
Offensively, freshman
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) and sophomore
Emily Robinson (Lafayette) belted home runs. McCleskey led JCJC with a home run, double and single, while Robinson homered and singled. Freshman
Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) doubled and singled, while sophomores
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) and
Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy) had two singles each. Donald, sophomore
Sarah Brock (North Pike) and freshman
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) added singles.
Payge Hebert doubled and singled for BRCC, while Hallie Autin and Blayne Pence added doubles.
Shelby Breaux was charged with the loss.
JCJC led 1-0 after one inning, 3-0 after two and 4-0 after four innings.
