Solid second half keys Bobcats past Hinds

UTICA – Malik Henry (Terry) and Winceton Edwards (Oak Grove) combined for 34 points in the second half to spark Jones County to a 93-81 decision over Hinds Community College here Monday night at J.D. Boyd Gymnasium.
JCJC is now 10-8 overall and 5-4 in division play.
The game was knotted at 37-37 at halftime, but the Bobcats took the lead for good at 42-40 with 18:33 left on a Henry 3-pointer. A finger roll by Edwards gave Jones a 54-43 lead with 14:24 to play.
An Edwards' 3-pointer from the right corner gave JCJC its longest of the second half at 72-59 with 6:07 remaining.
But Hinds made it interesting late.
Enrique Milton scored and was fouled with 2:03 left to make it 81-75. JCJC was called for a technical foul and Nakia Rivers made both shots to make it 81-77. But Milton then missed his free throw that would have cut the lead to three.
Michael Williams (Rayville, Louisiana) then made two free throws, followed by a Quentin Pough (Wayne County) basket to put Jones up 85-77 with 1:37 remaining.
Henry then made a basket and connected on six straight free throws in the final 44 seconds to seal the win.
In the first half, Jones fell behind quickly 10-4, but would rally and take a 33-20 lead with 4:57 showing on a layup by Mason Daniels (Atlanta, Georgia).
But the Bulldogs went on a 17-4 run and tied the game at halftime.
Henry finished with 26 points and Edwards had 20. David McCoy (Meridian) and Williams finished with 11 points each.
Henry had 9 rebounds and Omar Steele (Laurel) had 7. McCoy had 4 assists and Williams had 3 steals.
The Bobcats were 30-of-58 from the field (7-of-18 from 3-point range) for 52 percent. Jones was 26-of-33 from free throw line with Henry having a 13-of-16 night.
Rivers had 29 points for the Bulldogs. Milton had 17 and Jason Smith had 13.
The Bulldogs were 24-of-62 from the field (11-of-29 from 3-point range) for 39 percent. Hind was 22-of-36 from the foul line.
The Bobcats outrebounded the Bulldogs, 36-29.
Hinds falls to 6-10 overall, 3-6 in the division.
The Bobcats travel to Pearl River for a 7:30 p.m. Thursday game, whioh will air on www.prccmedia.com.
Hinds visits Copiah-Lincoln on Thursday.
