ELLISVILLE – Second-ranked Jones County completed a sweep of No. 10 East Central with a 9-1, six-inning victory in game two here Wednesday evening at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
JCJC won game one, 2-1.
JCJC is now 15-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.
The Lady Bobcats are scheduled to travel to Northwest for a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
Jones jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in game two.
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) drew a one-walk and
Emily Robinson (Lafayette) followed with a double.
Hallie Donald (Mooreville) followed with an RBI single and
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) drove in a run with a ground out.
Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) then delivered another RBI single.
Jones added a run in the third when Murray singled, Donald reached on a fielder's choice,
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) singled and Venable got another RBI single to make it 4-0.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Simone McKinney (Harrison Central) was hit by a pitch and
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) drew a walk. After Murray reached on fielder's choice, Robinson followed with an RBI single. Murray would later score on a passed ball.
ECCC got its run in the top of the sixth when Madalyn McMahon walked and Cassie Obman reached on a fielder's choice. Katherine Shell walked and Mackenzie Johnson singled to load the bases.
Tagen Remmel singled a run home, but starter
Madison Burge (Harrison Central) got a fly out to end the inning.
The Lady Bobcats ended the game in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs with two outs.
Murray singled and scored on a Robinson double. Donald then singled to score Robinson and
Nancy Williams' (Southeast Lauderdale) double scored pinchrunner
Sarah Brock (North Pike) with the final run.
Burge, 5-0, went six innings, allowed one run, four hits, walked three and struck out six to get the win.
Robinson doubled twice and singled with Murray, Donald and Venable each getting two singles. Williams had a double and Sikes had a single.
Kayla Beckham doubled for ECCC with McMahon, Johnson and Remmel adding singles.
Mackenzie Rousseau went 5.2 innings and got the loss. She gave up nine runs (eight earned), 11 hits, walked three and struck out two.
East Central, 11-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference, hosts East Mississippi on Saturday.
