ELLISVILLE – No. 15 Mississippi Gulf Coast edged No. 22 Jones County 5-4 in women's tennis here Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Courts.
The Lady Bulldogs won two of the doubles' points in the close win over Jones.
In No. 2 doubles,
Beth Owen (Stone) and
Kaylee McLaurin (Laurel Christian School) beat Jenna Lyons and Megan Bankston, 8-2. In No. 1 doubles, MGCCC's Bianca Buie and Margarita Lopareva beat
Ariadna Jordan (Spain) and
Mireia Jordan (Spain), 8-1. In No. 3 doubles, Tierney Holmes and Jillianne Craft defeated
Brooke Cran (Wayne County) and
August Parker (Northeast Jones) 8-5.
Owen whipped Bankston in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2. McLaurin downed Holmes in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-3 and Parker rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 victory in No. 5 singles.
Buie edged
Mireia Jordan in No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) and Lopareva beat
Ariadna Jordan in No. 2 singles, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3. In No. 6 singles, Craft defeated Cran, 7-5, 6-2.
In an extra match, Gulf Coast's Kaitlyn Miller downed
Kaitlyn Craig (Petal), 9-7.
JCJC is now 3-1 and MGCCC improves to 6-0.
JCJC is scheduled to play Blue Mountain College in New Albany at 1 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats will host Delta State in a 4:30 p.m. scrimmage on Friday and will travel to East Central at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
MGCCC goes to Copiah-Lincoln on Thursday.
