Second-ranked JCJC completes sweep of No. 6 Illinois Central

ELLSVILLE –  Hallie Donald (Mooreville) went the distance and also collected three hits to spark No. 2 Jones County to a 10-2, five-inning victory over No. 6 Illinois Central here Saturday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Field Field.
The game completed play in the Gwen Magee Invitaional.
The Lady Bobcats, 13-1, begin MACJC play with a 3 p.m. home doubleheader on Wednesday vs. No. 10 East Central.
Illinois Central, 1-3, will not play again until March 10 at a tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
At the plate, Donald doubled and singled twice.
In the circle, she allowed two runs (one earned), four hits, walked none and struck out two.
Jones took a 3-0 lead in the second when Donald doubled down the line into the rightfield corner and Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) reached on a fielder's choice. With two outs, Nancy Williams (Southeast Lauderdale) drew a walk to load the bases.
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) ollowed with a two-run single. Williams then scored on the front end of a double steal.
ICC got a run in the top of the third when Abri Hale doubled and Kinsey Walters singled. Madi McCoy's sacrifice fly to left scored Hale.
In the bottom of the fourth, Donald singled and was replaced by pinchrunner Natilyn Hasty (Germantown). Venable followed with a double and Faith Denton's (Northwest Rankin) sacrifice fly scored Hasty.
Jones made it 7-1 in the fourth.
With two outs, Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) reached on an error on a bunt. Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) and McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) walked to load the bases. Loftin scored on a wild pitch and Venable followed with an RBI single.
The Lady Cougars got a run in the fifth when Alexis West reached on an error and scored on an error on a fly ball.
JCJC ended it in the bottom of the fifth.
Williams walked and McCleskey reached on a fielder's choice. Loftin reached on an error, which allowed Williams to score. Murray's sacrifice fly to right scored McCleskey and Meg Martin's (Leake Academy) groundout scored Loftin with the final run.
In addition to Donald's hits, Venable had a double and McCleskey singled.
Hale doubled for ICC with McCoy, Shelby Terrell and Walters adding singles.
Katie David went 3.2 innings and took the loss. She allowed 10 runs (5 earned), walked five and struck out three. Megan Adams pitched the final inning.
