ELLISVILLE – Sophomore
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) tossed a five-inning no-hitter to lead No. 2 Jones County to an 8-0 win over Northwest Mississippi in game one of a doubleheader here Thursday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
Perque walked the first batter of the game and then retired 15 straight as she improved to 2-1.
She ended the game with seven strikeouts and one walk.
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) reached on a bunt single and scored on
Emily Robinson's (Lafayette) single.
McKennah Sikes' (Van Buren, Arkansas) singled to score Robinson.
In the second,
Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) was hit by a pitch,
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) reached on an error and
Sarah Brock (North Pike) singled to load the bases. Loftin's sacrifice fly to right scored Denton and
Taylor Murray's (Parklane Academy) ground out scored McCleskey.
In the fourth, Denton was hit by a pitch and was replaced by pinchrunner
Simone McKinney (Harrison Central). McCleskey reached on a bunt single and Brock's single scored McKinney. Loftin's groundout scored McCleskey and Murray's single scored Brock to make it 7-0.
JCJC ended it in the bottom of the fifth when Donald reached on an error and was replaced by pinchrunner
Natilyn Hasty (Germantown). Sikes followed with a double and
Callie Venable's (Clinton, Louisiana) scored Hasty with the final run.
Sikes doubled and singled with Brock and Venable getting two singles each. Loftin, Murray, Robinson and McCleskey added singles.
Harley Smith went the distance and took the loss for the Rangers.
JCJC is now 9-1 on the season.
Northwest falls to 2-1.
