ELLISVILLE – Fans at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field were treated to two amazing pitching performances here Thursday afternoon.
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) tossed a five-inning no-hitter to lead No. 2 Jones County to an 8-0 win over Northwest Mississippi in game one of a doubleheader.
Not to be outdone,
Hallie Donald (Mooreville) followed that up with another 5-inning no-hitter as the Lady Bobcats won game two, 8-0.
Northwest's only baserunner came when Donald issued a one-out walk in the second.
Donald had four strikeouts as she improved to 4-0.
The Lady Bobcats took a 2-0 lead in the first when
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) and
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) drew walks. An
Emily Robinson (Lafayete) sacrifice fly scored Loftin and Murray would later score on a passed ball.
JCJC made it 3-0 in the third. Murray walked, stole second and scored on a single by
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas).
The Lady Bobcats went up 7-0 in the fourth.
Angel Guyton (Smithville) reached on an error,
Simone McKinney (Harrison Central) walked and Loftin reached on a fielder's choice. Murray walked to load the bases and
Meg Martin (Leake Academy) followed with a two-run single. After Donald walked, Sikes followed with another two-run single.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Gracie McCleskey (Harrison Central) reached on a bunt single, McKinney walked and Loftin's single scored McCleskey to end it.
Sikes had three singles and three RBIs for Jones. Loftin, Martin and McCleskey each had a single and Martin had two RBIs.
Starter Katie Brownlee pitched two innings, allowed two runs, one hit and took the loss. Kendall Akerson pitched two innings, allowed five runs (one earned) and three hits. Sarah Johnson pitched .1 innings, allowed one run and two hits.
