GULF SHORES, Alabama – Second-ranked Jones County opened the Sun Chief Classic with a 9-1, five-inning win over Lamar State-Port Arthur (Texas) here Friday morning.
JCJC took command with a five-run first inning and never looked back.
Madison Burge (Harrison Central) went the distance and got the win. She allowed one run, six hits, walked none and struck out six.
Callie Venable's (Clinton, Louisiana) two-run home run ended the game in the bottom of the fifth. She finished the game with a home run, single and two RBIs.
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) doubled, singled and had two RBIs.
Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) and
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) each had doubles with
Hallie Donald (Mooreville) and
Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) adding singles. McCleskey ended the game with three RBIs.
JCJC led 6-0 after two, 7-0 after three and 7-1 after four.
The Lady Bobcats are now 5-0 on the year.
