GULF SHORES, Alabama –
Emily Robinson (Lafayette) hit a three-run, two-out, two-strike home run in the top of the seventh inning to help No. 2 Jones County to a dramatic 5-4 victory over Central Alabama here Friday afternoon in the Sun Chief Classic.
JCJC trailed 4-1 entering the top of the seventh.
Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) led off with a double and
Nancy Williams (Southeast Lauderdale) followed with a single. After a fly out,
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) singled to score Venable. After a pop out for the second out, Robinson came through with her home run.
In the bottom of the seventh,
McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) retired Central Alabama in order to secure the win.
Robinson homered and had three RBIs, while Venable doubled. Loftin singled twice with Sikes,
Angel Guyton (Smithville) and Williams adding singles.
Sikes went the final 2.1 innings and got the win. She allowed no runs, two hits, walked none and struck out two. Starter
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) went 4.1 innings, allowed four runs (none earned), four hits, walked two and struck out seven.
The game was scoreless until the fifth. JCJC got a run in the top of the inning, but Central Alabama responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Lady Bobcats are 7-0 on the season.
