Wolves defeat Bobcats, 77-62

ELLISVILLE – Copiah-Lincoln Community College outscored Jones County 20-9 over the final 9:10 and beat the Bobcats, 77-62, here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Bobcats are now 9-8 overall, 4-4 in the division. Co-Lin improves to 15-2 overall and remains tied with Pearl River for first place in the division at 6-2.
Co-Lin took the lead for good at 15:24 of the first half when Darrian Wilson hit a layup to go up 9-7. A 3-pointer by Tray Lawson ended a 12-0 run and gave the Wolves a 17-7 lead with 12:41 showing.
The Wolves' longest lead of the first half came with 4:11 left when Anthony Jones made a 3-pointer to make it 34-17.
But JCJC would get a 3-pointer from Winceton Edwards (Oak Grove) and back-to-back 3-pointers from Quentin Pough (Wayne County) to make it 34-26 with just :32 left in the half.
The Wolves would lead 36-26 at halftime.
Co-Lin would match its longest lead at 45-28 when Jonathan Floyd hit a 3-pointer with 17:25 to play.
However, the Bobcats went on a 20-6 run and pulled to within 51-48 with 12:12 left when David Gaines, Jr. (Wayne County) converted a 3-point play.
A Mason Daniels (Atlanta, Georgia) 3-pointer had JCJC within 57-53 with 9:26 left. But the Wolves put together a 13-4 run and went up 70-57 with 2:54 to play when Damarius Brooks got a steal and converted a layup.
Pough led the Bobcats with 19 points, while Edwards added 15 and David McCoy (Meridian) finished with 11.
Malik Henry (Terry) had 7 rebounds for Jones, McCoy had 4 assists and Pough had 6 steals.
JCJC was 23-of-59 from the field (10-of-30 from 3-point range) for 39 percent. The Bobcats were 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
Floyd had 21 points for the Wolves with 19 of those coming in the second half. Wilson finished 16, Miles Daniels had 15 (all in the first half on 3-pointers) and Brooks had 11.
Co-Lin was 29-of-57 from the floor (13-of-25 from 3-point range) for 51 percent. The Wolves were 6-of-9 from the free throw line.
The Wolves outrebounded JCJC, 35-30.
The Bobcats go to Utica to meet Hinds at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The game will air on www.hindsccsports.com.
Co-Lin entertains Mississippi Gulf Coast on Monday.
