Perque, Frost lead No. 1 JCJC past Pearl River

ELLISVILLE – Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) threw a one-hitter and Autumn Frost (East Webster) hit a grand slam to pace No. 1 Jones County Junior College to an 8-0, five-inning win over Pearl River Community College in game one here Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
Perque gave up a first-inning single to Kayla Williams and a walk to Ramee Taylor in the third and those were the only two baserunners she allowed. She struck out seven as she improved to 12-0.
In the bottom of the first, Cori McCrary (Carroll Academy) drew a walk, Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) singled and Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) walked to load the bases.
Frost then lined her 11th home run of the year over the leftfield wall to make it 4-0.
In the fourth, McCrary reached on an infield hit, stole second and third and scored on Loftin's double.
Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) led off the bottom of the fifth with her 12th home run of the season to make it 6-0.
Natalie Hogue (Harrison Central) reached on an error and was replaced by courtesy runner Jessie Bumpous (Southaven). Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) singled Bumpous home. Pinchrunner Sarah Brock (North Pike) would end the game when she scored on a wild pitch.
Loftin doubled and singled for the Lady Bobcats. Frost and Baty homered with McCrary, Emily Robinson (Lafayette), Hogue and Venable adding singles.
Jackie Shows started and took the loss. She pitched an inning, allowed four runs, three hits and walked two. Madison Scoggin pitched the final 3 2/3 innings, allowed four runs (two earned), five hits, walked one and struck out one.
