ELLISVILLE – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College rolled to a 10-2 victory in five innings over Southwest in Game 1 of their MACJC Best-of-3 playoff series here Friday evening at Community Bank Park.
The Lady Bobcats, now 43-2, can clinch the series with a win in Game 2 at 1 p.m. Saturday. The game will air on www.jcjc.tv. A third game, if necessary, would follow immediately after Game 2.
If the Lady Bobcats win the series, then they would host the MACJC Tournament May 5-7.
Jones took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Emily Robinson (Lafayette) reached on an infield single and Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) hit a two-run home run over the right-center field wall.
The Lady Bobcat sent 10 batters to the plate, scored six runs and took an 8-0 lead in the third inning.
Cori McCrary (Carroll Academy) led off with a single, stole second and scored on a Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) double. Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) reached on an error, which allowed Loftin to score.
After Autumn Frost (East Webster) singled, Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) followed with a three-run home run, her 17th blast of the year.
Robinson then singled and was replaced by pinch-runner Sarah Brock (North Pike). Natalie Hogue (Harrison Central) sacrificed Brock to second and Murray walked. Both runners advanced on a double steal and pinch-hitter Callie Venable's (Clinton, Louisiana) groundout scored Brock to make it 8-0.
The Lady Bears scored twice in the fourth.
Miranda Magee led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Jenna Duff, who reached base on the play. Jeney Hudson's groundout advanced the runners. Kelcey Bremenkamp and Jordan Fitzgerald both followed with RBI singles.
Jones got the two runs back in the bottom of the fourth.
Loftin led off with a bunt single and went all the way to third base on a throwing error. After Byrd walked and stole second, Frost's groundout scored Loftin. Baty's sacrifice bunt would score Byrd.
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) went the first four innings and got the win, improving to 16-0.  She allowed two runs, three hits, walked none and struck out three. Amanda Holliday (Watson, Louisiana) pitched a perfect fifth inning.
Robinson had two singles for Jones, while Baty and Murray homered. Loftin doubled and singled with McCrary and Frost adding singles.
