No. 2 Lady Bobcats clinch MACJC regular season crown

ELLISVILLE – The 2nd-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats captured their second straight MACJC regular season title here Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
JCJC broke a 0-0 tie with five runs in the fifth and beat Hinds Community College 5-2 in game two of a doubleheader.
Jones took game one 25-2 in five innings.
The Lady Bobcats are 40-2 overall and 24-2 in the MACJC. JCJC ends regular season play at Coahoma with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Monday.
The Lady Bobcats will host a best-of-three playoff series April 28-29 against the eighth-place team in the conference. If they win that series, then they would host the MACJC Tournament May 5-7.
Hinds is 11-32 and 6-20. The Lady Eagles end the regular season by hosting Mississippi Delta on Saturday.
JCJC scored all of its runs with two outs in the fifth inning.
Brittany Hagwood (Enterprise) singled with one out and was sacrificed to second by Cori McCrary (Carroll Academy). She stole third and scored on Kelsha Loftin's (Mendenhall) bunt single. Loftin stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) single.
Autumn Frost (East Webster) then hit a two-run home run and Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) followed with a solo shot.
Hinds got on the board in the sixth when Jessica Sanford singled and Kilah Dearman hit a two-run home run.
Madison Burge (Harrison Central) pitched the final three innings in relief and got the win. She gave up two runs, two hits, walked none and struck out two as she upped her record to 9-0. Starter Haylee Morse (Madison Central) pitched four innings, allowed no runs, one hit, walked one and struck out two.
Baty homered and singled, while Loftin had two singles. Frost homered, Emily Robinson (Lafayette) doubled and Byrd and Hagwood added singles.
Amberlee Nix went the distance and took the loss. She allowed five runs, eight hits, walked two and had no strikeouts.
Dearman homered, while Sanford and Di'Mon Brown had singles for Hinds.
