FULTON –
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) went the distance in the circle and
Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) got three hits as No. 1 Jones County Junior College beat No. 9 Itawamba Community College 9-2 here Friday afternoon.
?????JCJC scored a run in the first inning when
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) singled and advanced to third base on a Byrd double. Loftin would score on a wild pitch.
JCJC made it 3-0 in the second.
Natalie Hogue (Harrison Central) and
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) led off with walks and
Brittany Hagwood (Enterprise) followed with a sacrifice.
Cori McCrary's (Carroll Academy) sacrifice fly scored courtesy runner
Jessie Bumpous (Southaven) and Loftin followed with an RBI single.
The Lady Bobcats added three more runs in the third.
Byrd and
Autumn Frost (East Webster) singled and
Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) followed with an RBI single. Murray drew a walk and Frost would score on a passed ball. Hagwood reached on an error, which allowed Baty to score.
ICC got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Mamie Hollenhead singled and scored a double by Kaitlyn Rhodes.
Jones scored three runs in the sixth to take a 9-1 lead.
Murray and McCrary singled and Loftin walked to load the bases. Both Murray and McCrary would then score on the same wild pitch and Byrd's single scored Loftin.
ICC got a run in the bottom of the sixth when Hollenhead doubled, took third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Rhodes.
Perque, 14-0, went the distance, allowed two runs, six hits, walked one and struck out five.
Byrd doubled and singled twice, while Loftin had two singles. McCrary, Frost, Baty and Murray added singles.
Carleigh Mills was the starter and loser for ICC. She pitched three innings, allowed six runs (four earned), six hits, walked four and struck out one. McKenzie Piper pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed two runs and two hits. Grayson Wells tossed 1 2/3 innings, allowed one run, one hit, walked one and struck out one.
Hollenhead doubled and singled twice for ICC, while Rhodes doubled. Alex Brown and Mary Kansas Sullivan added singles.
The Lady Bobcats are now 38-1 and 22-1 in MACJC play.
ICC is 31-10 and 18-5.
