ELLISVILLE – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College defeated Mississippi Delta Community College 12-1 in five innings in game one of a doubleheader here Saturday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
Pitcher
Haylee Morse (Madison Central) had a perfect game until the top of the fifth inning when Brittany McTeer led off with a home run. It was the only baserunner Morse allowed as she finished with seven strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings and improved to 6-1 on the year.
Madison Burge (Harrison Central) got the final two outs by strikeout.
JCJC took a 6-0 lead in the first inning when
Cori McCrary (Carroll Academy) reached on a bunt single,
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) was hit by a pitch and Byrd walked to load the bases.
Autumn Frost (East Webster) followed with a grand slam.
Emily Robinson (Lafayette) reached on an error and
Natalie Hogue (Harrison Central) followed with an RBI single.
Jessie Bumpous (Southaven) then hit an RBI double.
The Lady Bobcats made it 12-0 in the fourth.
McCrary reached on a bunt single, Loftin drew a walk and Byrd belted a three-run home run. With two outs, Robinson singled and Hogue drew a walk. Bumpous delivered an RBI double and
Brittany Hagwood's (Enterprise) infield single scored courtesy runner
Sarah Brock (North Pike). Bumpous would later score on an error.
Bumpous had two doubles and McCrary added two singles. Frost and Byrd both had home runs with Robinson, Hogue and Hagwood adding singles.
Catrina Hall went the distance and took the loss, allowing nine hits and five walks.
