Sixth inning run lifts No. 1 JCJC past No. 12 East Central, 4-3

ELLISVILLE – Top-ranked Jones County broka  3-3 tie with a run in the sixth inning and went to beat No. 12 East Central 4-3 in game one of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
It was the MACJC opener for both teams. Jones is now 12-0 overall and ECCC is 13-2.
With the game tied 3-3, Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk and was replaced by pinchrunner Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy). Emily Robinson (Lafayette) sacrificed Murray to second. Natalie Hogue (Harrison Central) hit a ground ball that was booted and allowed Murray to score.
Jones had jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second when Baty doubled and scored on a double by Robinson. Kelsha Loftin's (Mendenhall) single drove in Robinson.
The Lady Bobcats made it 3-0 in the third when Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) belted her fifth home run of the season over the leftfield fence.
ECCC cut the lead to 3-2 in the fourth.
Cassie Obman reached on an error and Katherine Shell drew a walk. With two outs, Kenyatta Moore tripled to right to score both runners.
The Lady Warriors tied it in the fifth when Kayla Beckham and Brittney McCray had back-to-back doubles.
Madison Burge (Harrison Central) went the final three innings and got the win. She allowed no runs, one hit, walked none and struck out two as she improved to 3-0. Starter Amanda Holliday (Watson, Louisiana) went the first four innings, allowed three runs (one earned), five hits and walked two.
Baty double and singled, Byrd homered, Robinson doubled, whlle Loftin and Sarah Brock (North Pike) added singles.
Kaitlyn Oswalt went the distance and took the loss for East Central. She allowed four runs (three earned), six hits, walked four and struck out one.
Beckham doubled and singled twice for ECCC, while McCray doubled and singled and Moore tripled.
