BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – Third-rated Jones County Junior College took two games here Friday over Baton Rouge Community College.
JCJC took game one, 17-1 in five innings.
In game two,
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) tossed a two-hit shutout and
Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) and
Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) homered as JCJC completed the sweep, 6-0.
Perque gave up just three hits, struck out 10 and walked one as she upped her record to 3-0.
Byrd homered, singled and had three RBIs, while Cori McCrary (Carroll Academy) and Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) each had two singles. Baty hit her third home run of the day and
Brittany Hagwood (Enterprise) singled.
JCJC led 1-0 after one, 2-0 after three, 3-0 after four and 4-0 after five.
Alexis Groce, Virginia Cacioppo and Katherine Cognevich singled for BRCC. Sydnee McCall took the loss.
The Lady Bobcats are now 11-0 and will open MACJC play at home with a 4 p.m. Tuesday doubleheader against East Central.
BRCC is 12-20 and plays at Wallace State-Dothan (Alabama) on Saturday.
