SCOOBA – Top-rated Jones County Junior College cruised to a 13-5, five-inning win over East Mississippi in game two of a doubleheader here Thursday afternoon.
JCJC took game one, 8-0 in five innings.
The Lady Bobcats are now 31-1 overall and 15-1 in MACJC play.
EMCC falls to 13-16 overall and 10-4 in conference play.
JCJC hosts Mississippi Delta in a 2 p.m. Saturday doubleheader. The games will air on
www.jcjc.tv.
EMCC goes to Pearl River on Saturday.
After EMCC's Averi Pender hit a two-run home run in the first inning, JCJC responded with 13 straight runs.
Autumn Frost (East Webster) and Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) hit back-to-back solo shots in the second to tie the game at 2-2.
Callie Venable (Silliman, Louisiana) singled and later scored when Brittany Hagwood (Enterprise) reached on an error to make it 3-2.
The Lady Bobcats took a 7-2 advantage in the third.
Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) singled, Baty walked and
Emily Robinson (Lafayette) followed with an RBI single. Venable singled and
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) followed with a two-run double.
Jones made it 11-2 in the fourth.
Cori McCrary (Carroll Academy) and Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) drew walks and Byrd hit an RBI double. Baty's sacrifice fly to center drove in a run and Robinson delivered a single. Venable's double to left drove in two runs.
Jones added two runs in the fifth when McCrary tripled and scored on
Sarah Brock's (North Pike) groundout.
Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy) then followed with a solo home run.
EMCC scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Madison Burge (Harrison Central) pitched four-plus innings and got the win to improve to 7-0. She allowed five runs, eight hits, walked three and struck out three.
Amanda Holliday (Watson, Louisiana) pitched an inning, allowed no runs, no hits and struck out one.
Venable doubled and singled twice, while Baty homered and doubled, Frost homered and singled and Gilbert homered. Byrd doubled and singled and Robinson singled twice. McCrary tripled, while Murray doubled and drove in three runs.
Ciara Steward was the starter and loser, allowing seven and seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. Magnolia Keller allowed six runs and seven hits in 2 1/3 innings.
Pender homered and singled for the Lions, while Mallory Vance doubled and singled and Kaitlyn Brannon singled twice. Kendall Wilkinson had a double and Sydney Olander added a single.
