SCOOBA –
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) tossed a no-hitter to lead No. 1 Jones County Junior College to an 8-0, five-inning victory over East Mississippi here Thursday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader.
Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) ripped two home runs and
Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) smashed another in the victory.
JCJC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when
Cori McCrary (Carroll Academy) led off with a single, stole second and scored on Byrd's single.
The Lady Bobcats added five runs in the third.
McCrary led off with a double and scored on
Kelsha Loftin's (Mendenhall) double. Byrd then drilled a two-run home run to center.
Autumn Frost (East Webster) and Baty singled and
Emily Robinson (Lafayette) drew a walk to load the bases.
Brittany Hagwood (Enterprise) reached on an error, which allowed Frost to score.
Byrd and Baty belted solo home runs in the fourth to make it 7-0.
In the fifth,
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) led off with a walk, was sacrificed to second by Hagwood, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on McCrary's groundout.
Perque only allowed two baserunners as she improved to 11-0. She struck out eight, walked one and one batter reached on an error.
Byrd homered twice, singled and drove in four runs. Baty homered and singled, while McCrary and Loftin both doubled and singled. Frost added a single.
Carly Thompson was the starter and loser. She went two innings, allowed five runs (four earned) and seven hits. Madison Jacques pitched the final three innings, allowed three runs and three hits.
