GULFPORT –
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) tossed a three-hit shutout and
Autumn Frost (East Webster) smashed a grand slam to lead No. 1 Jones County Junior College o a 7-0 win over No. 5 Mississippi Gulf Coast in game one here Tuesday afternoon at West Harrison High School.
The victory gives Jones a 29-0 record, which is the longest undefeated streak in school history.
Perque struck out nine and walked none as she improved to 10-0.
JCJC took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when
Cori McCrary (Carroll Academy) reached on a bunt single and was sacrificed to second by
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall). Frost lined a two-out single to center to drive McCrary home.
The Lady Bobcats put together a six-run third inning.
Natalie Hogue (Harrison Central) reached on an error and was replaced by courtesy runner
Jessie Bumpous (Southaven).
Taylor Murray (Parklane Academy) then singled. With two outs, McCrary reached on an infield single to load the bases. Loftin reached on an infield hit, which scored Bumpous, and
Kelly Byrd (Copiah Academy) was hit by a pitch to score Murray.
Frost then homered over the leftfield wall to give JCJC a 7-0 lead.
Frost homered, singled and had five RBIs, while McCrary and Murray each had two singles. Loftin, Byrd and
Brittany Baty (Northeast Lauderdale) added singles.
Nora Keehn went the distance and took the loss. She allowed one earned run, nine hits, walked none and struck out one.
Lexie Mathis and Abbey Salvo each doubled for MGCCC with Brittney Triplett, Precious Sanders, Aidan Nichols and Kristen Sexton adding singles.
